Each hop is listed with its status code and the location it points to, so a 302 that was meant to be a 301, or a chain that takes three hops to reach one page, becomes visible rather than suspected.

Redirect chains cost every visitor and every crawler a round trip per hop, and a loop costs them the page altogether.
